Somalia’ Prime Minister’s Statement on Somalia Joining IAEA

The Federal Republic of Somalia has joined the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) a signifying a major milestone reflecting the country’s commitment to promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Through an exclusive consultancy arrangement with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of The Federal Republic of Somalia, Almond Energy was instrumental in the application, submission and advisory services in this process with IAEA.

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre said in a statement that the move is a significant milestone reflecting the country’s commitment to promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

“Somalia’s membership in the IAEA represents an important step in our country’s progress and development. We believe that nuclear science and technology, when applied peacefully, offer immense potential to address some of the most pressing challenges we face, from improving healthcare and agriculture to managing our natural resources more effectively and building resilience to climate change,” the office of the Somali prime minister said in a statement on Monday.

Almond Energy congratulates Somalia on being the newest and 179th member of the UN nuclear watchdog.
